I started blogging early in 2011 when I was preparing for a six-month stay in the Nebraska Sandhills. I wanted to record my activities, my thoughts on the landscape, the history of the hunting lodge I was living in, and add a few snapshots of life on the ranch, as well as some reflections on Mari Sandoz, whose work first brought the Sandhills area to my attention.

I managed to put up a posting just about every day, as well as a number of photographs, creating a body of work which I’ve since edited down to a 90,000-word narrative of my time out there.

Since I returned from Cherry County, in early October, I’ve posted every four or five days, writing mostly about my life as a writer back in the U.K.
